Values and Needs

The first step on my journey was that of reviewing my values and needs. I had to assess who and what mattered most to me at this juncture in my life. I realized that number one is the quality of my relationships. My key relationships that mean the most to me and the way I live my life. Next, was meaningful work. Defining meaningful work moved me from values to needs. I purposely limited myself to two core values to keep things simple. I have a way of making things too complex, and this process was not going to be helpful if it made things more difficult to sort through.
Relationships
Meaningful work
That seemed simple enough.
It was amazing to me that in order to define meaningful work I had to determine my needs. What was required for me to feel good about what I did? I enjoy what I do. A lot; but to make it really meaningful it has to be creative, feed life long learning, and be both a resource and support to others. That realization enabled me to clearly define what I offer: education, entertainment, and encouragement. It’s what makes my work meaningful and it is also what previous clients have told me they have received from me. Sometimes it’s just about paying attention to what is meaningful to us and to others and discovering that the two are the same!
