It's never too late to reclaim a dream

This week has been incredible. I opened my one woman show “Cracked” at the Windsor International Fringe Festival. Attendance has exceeded my expectations for a new show from a new performer.
Actually, that is not entirely true. I have been writing and performing for as long as I can remember; but fear stopped me from really pursuing it.
I let self-doubt rule my life and I did the safe thing. I got my degree and got a ‘real’ day job.
But I have always been drawn to performance. It has been a bit of a love-hate relationship for a long time. That should have been a clue for me. I walked off the stage 20 years ago, and with the exception of some self-written pieces, I never went back to a full scale production. Until recently.
I was asked to fill in as a re-cast. I was petrified, but I wanted to help a friend who was also in the cast. The founder of the Fringe Festival saw one of the shows and asked if I would consider doing something for the Fringe.
The short version is that I wrote “Cracked” with the intention of sharing a powerful message with people that there is always hope. No matter what happens to us, we can be resilient. It isn’t an easy victory, but it is possible.
And sometimes that victory is the re-claiming of a dream.

Re: Your conclusion, “No matter what happens to us, we can be resilient.”
This has become an educational focus this decade. How do we reach and teach the ones that are failing. Research has shown that resilience is a key factor. Research is ongoing as to how to help those at risk develop this trait.
I look forward to seeing the show.
